Independently invigilated certification exam

If a candidate cannot attend one of the worldwide authorised examination centres, the exam can be taken at a time and location of the candidate’s choice with their own nominated invigilator who meets MIBoC requirements.

Detailed description

MIBoC certification exams should be taken at a MIBoC Authorised Examination Centre (AEC).

If you are unable to attend a MIBoC Authorised Examination Centre, you may be eligible to apply to MIBoC to take your exam using the Independent Invigilated Online Exam method.

This process enables an approved candidate to sit the certification exam online at a location of their choice, supervised in person by an independent invigilator who has been approved by MIBoC prior to the exam taking place. Candidates must not schedule their exam session until their application has been formally approved.

The Independent Invigilated Online Exam method is not available to everyone, and applications are processed on a case-by-case basis and approval is not guaranteed. Applicants will be advised directly if their application is not successful.

Independently invigilated exams are completed exclusively through our secure online examination platform. Paper-based exams will not be issued under this process.

Important Notice

Providing false or misleading information, failing to meet invigilation requirements, or breaching examination procedures may result in the invalidation of your exam and/or further action in accordance with MIBoC policies.

Before You Apply

Before submitting your application, you must ensure:

  • You have read and understood the independent invigilation application process
  • You have identified a nominated invigilator who meets the below independent criteria.
  • You have updated your information in your student profile in the TMS.
  • You have access to a reliable internet connection.
  • You have a suitable computer or laptop with a functioning webcam and microphone (built-in or connected). MIBoC online exam System Requirements
  • You agree to the mandatory video recording of your exam session.

Independent Invigilator Requirements

The nominated independent invigilator must meet the criteria below:

  • must be a third and neutral party and independent to the candidate and the industry.
  • must not be involved or have a background in condition monitoring and/or reliability-based maintenance in any manner and must not be the direct supervisor, manager.
  • must not be related in any way to the candidate taking the exam.

Suitable invigilators may include:

  • An office administrator or Human Resources representative
  • A University or Community College Examination Centre representative

Application and Approval Process

  1. Submit your application form.
  2. The MIBoC Exam Team will review your application eligibility.
  3. Your nominated invigilator will undergo a verification process to confirm they meet all requirements.
  4. If suitable, the invigilator will receive a declaration form to complete and return and will be required to provide a copy of valid photo identification for verification purposes.
  5. Once all requirements are satisfied, your application will be approved.
  6. Once approved, instructions will be sent to both the candidate and the invigilator.
